PROJECT INFORMATION
Nomadigo was tasked with understanding how to leverage the Netherlands’ expertise in innovative nuclear SMR's, to break into the USA market and position Dutch firms as partners in the U.S. energy transition, ensuring long-term success in one of the world’s fastest-growing nuclear markets.
We uncovered the various energy hubs and the funding each had received as well as the unique strengths and technologies being utilized by each of them. The focus was to identify the correct markets for a trade mission and what technologies would be most relevant for each.
Assignment
As the U.S. accelerates its transition to being a net energy exporter, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are gaining strong policy and investment support, presenting a major opportunity for Dutch nuclear innovators. This research project aims to identify market entry pathways for Dutch companies specializing in SMR technology, supply chain components, and advanced nuclear solutions.
The study will analyze U.S. regulatory frameworks, state-level incentives, and industry partnerships, providing a roadmap for Dutch firms to navigate licensing, financing, and deployment challenges. Key focus areas include potential collaborations with U.S. energy utilities, government agencies, and advanced reactor developers, leveraging funding opportunities from the Department of Energy (DOE) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
By aligning Dutch expertise in nuclear safety, reactor design, and supply chain innovation with U.S. market needs, this project will equip companies with the insights and strategies necessary to establish a long-term presence in the growing U.S. SMR sector
- The report was shared with the leading Dutch companies, to provide them with awareness of the opportunities, and set the stage for a trade mission as well as an upcoming road show.
- Expected outcomes include joint ventures, research collaborations, and new funding opportunities.
Statistics:
- Globally there are about 22GW of SMRs underway worth $176B
- The USA accounts for over 7GW of that power as of 2024 - almost 30% of the global total.
- The federal government issued $900M in subsidies and private capital deployed more than $1.5B in the Nuclear SMR space in 2024 alone.
Conclusion
The Nuclear SMR Market Analysis assists in aligning Dutch innovation and long-term research in clean energy, with the USA's hunger for new efficient energy sources, the project not only opens new market avenues for Dutch companies but also sets the stage for innovative collaborations and advancements in the global Nuclear SMR technology landscape. This strategic initiative showcases how market analysis can be a key driver in facilitating international trade and technological synergy.
